Finals

Should there really be a comprehensive test at the end of the semester of a class? As this would only serve to stress out a student and further them to just worry. Most of the things learned earlier on in the semester would have been forgotten as well since a test is specific as deals with certain issues as a math test or books recently read. The point would not be so much in the small details like names/places/dates or even a math equation but in the knowledge gained altogether. So thinking about it this way would make one rather take a problem solving test with real life situations. Given an example of a problem that can happen in the workplace a student can take a test and figure out the solution. This applies for all classes since the focus is education for the future. A finite math class serves to teach the students about dealing with money, probabilities, and percentages which helps immensely for a young worker trying to save for a car or place to live. Everything that has to do with a loan is needed for a finite class and a good test would put a problem out there that deals with a common real life situation. This problems solving method would best be applied as the philosophy in classes around any college campus since the whole point of attending college is to prepare for the future.

FRiDaY

Like many others, most wake up all having the mind set that today is going to be a great day. What so special about friday that separates it from all the rest of the days. The day friday has such a separation from the rest of the week that many forget about those days and jump into a time machine and only live on fridays. Many despise those who live like this which brings up the question, how do we meet in the middle? How do we find that happy median that allows us to live like every day is friday but also work hard throughout the week? Simple, rename everyday to friday and allow us to party it up everyday. The work production by every individual would increase and the rate of happiness per person would reach an all time high. The suicide rate would lower and life would actually be worth living. The ability to live and love life will forever be in our hearts and be pass on to our children and our children's children.

This I Believe

Stepping into a room full of strangers for the first time and acting confident will instantly put into those people’s minds that one is a person with high self-esteem or worth getting to know. People love being around a confident person, he or she becomes like a magnet attracting them. Its like an outdoor light that moths fly towards. When is darkness and a moth sees a light even in the distance it will fly towards the light. This is exactly the same thing with a person who dispels a certain luminosity about them. People always appreciate someone who will brighten up their day or put a smile on their faces. It is always a good thing to be the one who people are drawn to because of the natural radiance that he or she gives off. That personal aura is how people draw their first impressions.

It is necessary to live life to the fullest before the time comes when it’s too late. The old life creeps up as time passes by faster than we know it. I believe this means standing up for oneself by dispelling confidence in all situations that life presents. Whether it be walking into a room full of strangers or dancing at a party when no one else wants to get up, it is necessary to live life to the fullest before the time comes when it’s too late. Lee Ann Womack’s song “I Hope you Dance” she says “No one wants to look back on their years and wonder what if”. So to avoid looking back on all the years then acting out and not even caring what others are going to say would be the best idea.

In my own life this was played out when I switched high schools. After moving to the new school no one knew who I was and I was able to act confident and pretend to be popular. Just the mere act of pretended made me feel like a better person. In turn I got used to always acting confident. With my head held high and my shoulders back I became an important person simply by pretending. In works wonders and especially since it trains the mind, body and soul to behave in the certain manner. In middle school one girl had always been mistaken as me. We looked the same and had the same hair type. Both of us had curly, brown and long hair. Many times someone would come up to me in the hallway and say “hey Andrea” when it was really I Kim and then I would turn around and they would see my face then explain “Omgsh sorry I thought it was Andrea”. This happened many times and eventually people started to tell us apart by looking at our faces closer and then saying hello.

By the time I had entered my new high school there were apparent changes in me. I now believed more in myself and thought I was beautiful. Now I was becoming another person. One who had high self confidence and that could stand up for her and that even was popular. Now that my time had come I wasn’t wasting any moment of it. I kept telling myself that I was Andrea and in a sense became another person. This new person was loud and proud in all ways possible. This newfound pride excelled me in every way possible, my grades got higher and on the swim team I was always on time and then did great on the girls 500 meter race. In my mind I knew what the popular people were like and that in the very instance of walking into a classroom the kids in there automatically judge one. No matter what it is possible to be that confident person who people want to be around. I got right to work and was loud in class. Made jokes during class and started acting out in confidence at every opportunity there was. No way was I going to waste the chance to be what I wanted. I believe that in doing this i was able to live so that in the future I wouldn’t have to wonder what if. It was all possible because I believed in myself and figuratively dancing in a room full of strangers is the way to dispel the fear of not living life to its fullest want to on the inside.

In conclusion, I have learned through these experience about who I am as a person and where I am going in life. I want to live as if I am already older and not have to regret in the future what I didn’t do when I was younger. Not having to look back on all those years and feel empty is what I am doing. To make all this possible I am taking every opportunity. Living life to its fullest and experiencing things that I want to are in my plan. One day I will be able to say with pleasure that I do know what it’s like to dance in a room full of strangers or at least in a school classroom while making everything laugh. All these things opportunities I have from living in such a blessed country where anything is possible. If I want anything can happen and that is what I firmly believe.

V for Vendetta Movie Review: Intellectually Stimulating

After watching this movie directed by James McTeigue many questions were left in my mind. Multiple lessons learned in the movie include conquering oneʻs own fear, a totalitarian government, people acting like a community, embracing undesirable people and suppressive dictators. This movie is set in 2034, and the politics of this British government are fascist and similar to the Nazi party dictated by Adolf Hitler making the movie feel depressive or gloomy especially because of the gray scenes/lighting used. The genre of the film would be super-hero, fantasy, action or thriller. With references to the Holocaust and Valerieʻs(Natasha Wightman) story it brought forth some very meaningful issues such as race, religion, homosexuality, terrorism, and totalitarianism as well.

The high chancellor is Adam Sutler(John Hurt) who is the British dictator in the film and whose name closely resembles Adolf Hitlerʻs name. Adam Sutler is constantly shown with his big yellow teeth close up on screen commanding his followers. He portrays a dictator in the movie by always commanding everyone underneath him to do everything only his way and no questions asked. Failure to obey the government results in an x being put on your house and a black bag on your head. These so called undesirable people are then tortured just like the Jews in the Holocaust. Their heads are shaved, they are stripped naked, and then in the end die from the abuse. A scene grossly shows a multitude of naked people who are dead from the virus and their naked bodies are thrown in a pile as if they were merely trash to be burned. These Undesirable people were given a virus created by Dr. Delia Surridge(Sinead Cusack) whose research is done only for Sutler to gain more control over the country. An immunity to the virus is found in the main character of the story V(one of the 80,000 undesirables who were experimented on)he does not die like the rest of the victims but instead becomes smarter and gains a stronger body. V then blows up the testing facility and leaves with a vendetta of his own. He seeks vengeance on all the people involved with the testing facility and vows to kill every one of them for the torture and death of all those 80,000 people and for what they have done to him. His plan is to murder them all and leave the country with no rulers to respond to. By doing this he plans to destroy Parliament and all authority figures who control the people of Britain. He then meets Evey(Natalie Portman)for the first time while she is almost raped by three men on the street after curfew hours. V saves Evey from the men by throwing knives at them with his physical abilities. She then goes with him to a rooftop and watches as he blows up Old Bailey. His next plan of action is to air a message of himself (on every Television station in Britain by forcing the British Television Network) telling the people of Britain that next year on the fifth of November to rise up against the totalitarian government.

V then bring Evey to his underground home in which he has multiple painting on the walls, a jukebox and a copy of the Koran. This scene is very similar to The Phantom of the Opera, the mask worn by both characters, and romantic suggestions. V then proceeds to torment Evey just as he was done in the testing facility. He does this only because Evey comments “I would like to live without fear”. Natalie Portman actually has her real hair shaved off in this film and then during her time in the cell V gives her the notes that Valerie wrote him during his time in the facility. Valerie story bring Evey strength to keep on and not give in to what the tormentor wants. Valerie is a lesbian and she has been put in the cell next to Vʻs she write the story of her life. From being an outcast and expelled for her homosexuality.Clarence Carter says that “V for Vendetta may be among the most openly pro-gay blockbusters ever”. Evey then is freed by V when she no longer fears death and is will to die behind the chemical sheds instead of submit to the will of the torturer.

In the end V sends out tons of his guy fawks masks to the public before the fifth of November intending for them all to come out and rise up against the totalitarian government. The ending scene is one not to be missed since so many people come out with the masks that it covers the screen. They come and are not shot at by the military since the leaders have all been killed by V. Evey then pulls the trigger on the underground railroad (where V has died in the process of killing the leaders) the whole Parliament building is destroyed by bombs and there is fireworks displayed for all the people who came out. The ending climax scene shows the fireworks in the red letter V and the faces of all the persecuted victims in the testing facility as they were in the crowd wearing the guy fawks masks.

This film put ideas into ones mind about a revolution of the people to protect themselves whenever the government starts to be greedy under the rule of selfish dictators such as Adam Sutler or the “corrupt pedophile bishop at Westminster Abbey, Bishop Anthony James Lilliman, who commonly sleeps with very young innocent girls to please his perverted mind” This Bishop is one of the leaders killed by V, Bishop Lilliman is a horrible man who uses the church to pay for his expensive lifestyle and he is always living as a king. He most likely has sex with a young virgin girl on a daily basis and pays them a good amount of money to not tell anyone his secret schemes. If his nasty life got out into the public there is no way the people would put up with him being such an influential leader and having the role of Bishop. During a scene in the movie “Evey is undercover as a prostitute so that V can kill the Bishop with a drug overdose”.

One of the multiple lessons learned in the movie includes conquering oneʻs own fear. The fear of death is completely expunged from Eveyʻs mind after she goes through the torturing and then states “Iʻd rather die behind the chemical sheds” when pressed to so as the will of the torturer. This fear in Evey is gone from her which enable her to live a life more pleasantly and not have to hold back on things she wants to accomplish. When the time comes to be brave in the midst of the hard times in life Evey will be able to be strong enough to stand up to whatever comes her way. So will the people who in the end wore the masks and rose up against the military with their guns and watched as their government was bombed. Fear stops people from succeeding in different areas of life. Lloyd Douglas says “If a man harbors any sort of fear, it percolates, through all his thinking, damages his personality, makes him landlord to a ghost”. This means to conquer oneʻs own fear the best way is to acknowledge it and in response to the fear of death wiki answers says “Donʻt waste your lifetime worrying about death. Instead, fill each day with as much joy as possible, and donʻt let little things get you down. Go outside, play with friends, or take up a new sport. Just do anything that will take your mind off dying, and put it on living”.

A Totalitarian government as defined by Wikipedia “ is a political system where the state, usually under the control of a single party or faction, recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible”. This is evident in the curfew set in the movie which does not allow people out of their homes past a certain hour. This type of government is not run by the people and only works to bring unlimited power to the hands of a selfish few. This is not the democratic way we in America strive for. This calls us to action against anything in the government resembling totalitarianism and leaves an impression in our mind of what political actions must be taken in order to get away from this type of rule.

In line with democracy is community and the ability to accept the many differences among people. Undesirable people should be accepted into the mass of a country because they had nothing to do with the reason they are undesirable. Many would of course rather to be normal like everyone else, but that is simply not the case since everyone is created differently. Jews, homosexuals, deformed people, people with other religions, and the list goes on, but all should be accepted into the democracy and not be prejudiced against. The just of a democracy is the government is run for the people which means all people not just the select few. To stay away from a totalitarian government we need to become a community and be accepting of everyone.

Suppressive dictators such as Adolf Hitler use force to keep their victims under control and they make false promises of peace while really nothing but war is usually what they bring to the fearful people. The people submit to these dictators in hopes that war, disease, and prosperity will be found but instead they find themselves stripped from their freedom. By using the virus to control the masses Sutler just gets more power and his greed is what drives him. He uses everyone under him to feed his hunger for control. Just like Sutler is Bishop Lilliman who pretends to be a godly/christian person when in actuality he is the opposite. All his actions are only meant for him not the church people whom he preaches to. The people coming to him for confession believe him to be a messenger of Christ, when he is actually taking their offering money and spending it on prostitutes for himself. His hypocrisy is disgusting and even more so when the Bishop is supposed to be celibate according to the Catholic faith. The bishop must of had suppressed sexual desires that he let loose on young innocent girls who could not control his actions. Only by lying to the people can dictators have their self-absorbed ways met.

In conclusion, the film brought forth some needed criticism of this type of government and showed what can happen when people start to become fearful therefore placing control in the hands of a despotic ruler. No one individual can be trusted to be concerned over the welfare of an entire country without becoming addicted to the power it brings. This is why we no longer have kings or queens in America and instead rose up as a populace against the British monarchy in the American Revolution. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants “intellectual stimulation for their mind” or enjoys a movie with depth. A political nut would also like the film as well as since there is references to events taken place in the government. “According to the Los Angeles Times, “With a wealth of new, real-life parallels to draw from in the areas of government surveillance, torture, fear mongering and media manipulation, not to mention corporate corruption and religious hypocrisy, you cant really blame the filmmakers for having a field day referencing current events.” This is what can be learned from the movie and a democratic people can be secure in knowing that our constitution is there to provide laws protecting our freedom and saving us from a totalitarian government as seen in the film.

A Follow up Doctor's Visit

So after having a surgery done at the Hospital or even in the Doctor's office then the Doctor will tell you to follow up on the visit which is when you come in two weeks later and he will check to see if everything is alright. Does this mean just one more way to give them get rid of doing the real work and that two weeks later most likely the patient will feel better therefore giving the doctor a break. In order for them to treat our illnesses then they have to see what is wrong with our bodies. Sometimes we would feel better and then not even go visit the doctor thinking it a waste of time. So if there was a serious illness, infection or anything else serious then we wouldn't even know about it since we are feeling better. The doctor should at least check on our bodies after a surgery to see how we are doing and then tell us what is wrong with our body.

V for Vendetta: After Watching the Movie

This movie was very good at the end and I loved the ending where Parliament was blown up. I think that it was a good film for anyone that is into politics, revolutions, the Matrix, or the Phantom or the Opera. It was shown in the perspective of V and Evey and shows what they went through at the hands of the government. At the end it is very clear that their perspectives on things concerning the government are correct because of all the torturing the have both been through. The Blowing up of the Parliament building would be considered an act of terrorism which most don't agree with but when it comes to ridding the people of an oppressive and totalitarian government then there are positives for blowing up the building. Everyone cheers when all the people come out with the guy Fawkes masks at the end and believe that V is a hero instead of a terrorist who just murdered the high chancellor and who has blown up many buildings and done such things.

Saturday

I cleaned my room very well today. I washed my bedspread and clothes, towels, and jeans. I cleaned out the microwave, dusted, vacuumed, organized things under my bed, and threw away unnecessary things like old hair care products that were empty anyways. I made room on the counter next to the sink by throwing away hair conditioners that were empty, hand soap that was empty, empty makeup concealer, and smoothing hair serum by Paul Mitchell that was out. I am proud of myself for accomplishing all of this. Since I am usually a neat, clean, and orderly person I like to keep my room looking good and clean but with all the schoolwork/extra activities sometimes there is not enough time to have my room looking the way that I want it to. So this is great that I could actually finish washing all my clothes and get everything done in my room that needs to be cleaned.

My Day

So yesterday I got some things done. I talked with my academic counselor and she helped me to write out a plan of action to get more studying done. We drew a chart that shows what I do in a day and every hour from 8 am to 12 pm. I believe this was a great idea and that it will help me to focus more of my time onto studying. The one thing I do need to do is spend more time reading the chapters of my textbooks and studying notes for the class. The more time I spend on doing all these things the better it will be for me in the long run and not just in that specific class. I am glad that I am now going to be studying more because some of the things in these classes are valuable information to know in your mind. Knowing these things helps to make you a more knowledgeable person. The one thing I would like to do is be able to talk with very smart people about many different subjects such as politics, war, government parties, or many other subjects that I might have researched for a paper or learned about in a class.

V for Vendetta

I really like the movie so far. It is very interesting and especially the part where Evey gets put into the prison . She shows courage and faces death without caring. Evey is a very strong woman and I would love to be just like her. She said she wanted to live without fear and V did that for her. I think V is a very cruel person to though and he wants to make others feel the same way. He is also a very bitter person and canʻt leave the past alone. V wants to get back at all the people who hurt him or at least kill them.

Student Couselors

So what exactly is the job of the student counselors? How exactly do they help the kids and what draws the borderline when kids start to tell them about their personal lives? Do these Counselors qualify as or what? I would say they are fall somewhere in between and who knows exactly all the things that they really do. Many responsibilities such as class schedules and keeping up with all the many students that they have.

Andrea

This one girl had a heart surgery and now she has a pacemaker. So she called me yesterday at 2 in the morning and then proceeded to tell me that she was kicked out of her house. I told her it will pass and not to worry about it. So she then keeps talking about how she is going to get the medicine and everything. I said her mom will pay for it obviously she doesn't want her daughter to die. A bag of pills is what she was carrying around. I told her that taking all that stuff is probably what's making her so sick and that whichever ones weren't life or death necessary then to eliminate the other extra ones.

Doctors

So like last year I went to a specialist doctor and ear, nose and throat doctor. He told me I had tonsilitus so then I got my tonsils and adenoids removed. He didn't do his job right because now a year later my throat still hurts. I have done everything possible for my throat but cannot figure out what is causing it. I have to use throat spray on a daily basis to alieve some of my pain and even for a little while. I have taken many pain relievers in the past to help with the pain but to no advantage and my throat still hurts. Has been like this for over seven years. Now think about it I am 18 years old so that means this pain has been with me since I was 11 years old. And not even an specialist doctor can fix the problem. Doesn't that show how useless they are! I hate this pain and want to get rid of it but to no use because it never leaves me at all. No matter what I do my throat always hurts me. One doctor said it was post-nasal drip. I believe something is crooked or damaged in my nose causing excess mucus to run down the back side of my throat and give me nonstop pain all the days of my life.

Allergies

Today I went to the pharmacy to get my medicine the doctor at ACU prescribed me yesterday. The line at the Walmart pharmacy was tremendously long. Then when I got to the front the lady told me I had the wrong insurance card even thought I had previously shown it to her two hours earlier for the prescriptions to be filled. I had the medical card instead of the pharmacy one. Even though I have used it before at Walgreens and Cvs so they had to call the number on the back of the card to get the right information. All of this made me so fustrated and angry its so hard for a sick person to get help and medicine now and I felt so horrible that they were withholding my medicine I need to get better and hate how horrible I feel. The allergies along with sinusitis, post-nasal drip, earache, headache, soar throat and runny nosed. I feel almost like I'm going to die. Not even exaggerating I feel very sick right now and have no idea how this came about. What is wrong with my immune system that makes me prone to soar throat all the time and sickness. I am like a regular to the doctors office and the pharmacy. I don't want this anymore. Hopefully I can figure out ways to help my immune system like vitamin C and who knows what else. I don't want to keep getting sick all the time.

ACU

I am loving this school! The people here are very kind and great influences. The way everyone is so focused on God and their studies is a plus. The christian aspect is what draws me in. Chapel everyday is definitely a good way to focus thought on God. Whether its singing or hearing a speaker or going to Women in Business it counts as chapel and thats a good thing. The only thing I'm nervous about is my tests coming up since I'm not sure how that will go. I have been studying really hard and trying to keep in all the information for my Business class and Astronomy but still nervous. Hopefully the test won't be as hard as the upper class students have said or so only two have said that it was the "hardest test they ever took in their lives". Which leaves me to wonder how much they had actually studied for it and whether or not vocabulary words will be on their or more so details from the text. Very confusing trying to study every little detail and memorize words when I don't even know what will be on the test. We are only required to read the chapters now and were on chapter three. I have read, diagnosed and taken notes on those three chapters. Still so much information is packed into them and not only for that class but also my Astronomy class. Confusing things about the earths rotation and stars names but hopefully the quiz wont be as hard as I'm imagining it. All the hype about these hard tests is what's more bad than the actual test I'm guessing.

Young Romance

Why is it that so many fall in love at the wrong moment in life? The moment when least expected and then it turns out to be the most exciting thing you've ever experienced. When they say you fall in love they truly mean fall. Who decides they want to become crazily obsessed with another person. Who goes to sleep at night thinking I can't wait to fall madly into a roller coaster of emotions? Yes, it is true so many people long for love and with it someone to care them. The only sad part is when it spirals out of control and either of the two people end up getting hurt. It does not have to be this way at all. There are still multitudes of people who believe in chivalry. But in this modern time love has been reduced. Young women get deeply involved in a mans life persuading themselves it is real love. The kind always shown in the movie theaters the kind dreamed about since "The little Mermaid" came out and "Sleeping Beauty". The kind of love where the couple go off into the sunset happily ever after. Without any problems or any drama whatsoever. Then love advances into a deeper mindset when reading "Romeo and Juliet", where the love becomes so great that both commit suicide at the sight of each others dead bodies. It makes one wonder what modern day love looks like. Would Romeo and Juliet be the same if they had grown up in New York and hadn't been taught the traditional values chivalry? Becoming another number in the divorce rate?
Young adults have a tough time in looking for their life partner if even at all they decide to look. Is marriage still considered a sacred event at all or merely another social event founded by a good cause? In America is it possible that society has devalued marriage to the point of no return since the sexual revolution? Is it only christian now who believe in the cause?

College Students and Underage Drinking

Teens in this time are often faced with peer pressure to start habits/addictions such as drinking. What can be as simple as a little drink at a party can turn into a life altering addiction and a night to regret. Anything can happen when your mind is intoxicated and one will not know until the next day. Deciding not to make the right choice is something all young people need to learn and with these good decisions come responsibility.
A young person can make a wrong choice and have it affect them for the rest of their lives. Underage drinking can lead to a criminal record and even criminal activity. When eighteen year olds in the U.S. go to jail they are now considered adults by law and no more juvenile mercy for them! No one will have pity on a teen who makes an illegal decision because many can be killed at the hand of a drunk driver.

Health Care for The Uninsured

Now in these times with so many people unemployed, How can we expect ourselves to receive decent medical health care when Medical costs are steadily rising and in the economy. In a world where even a simple visit to a doctors office and a short appointment for lets say twenty minutes, one is required to fill out every drop of their information including social security numbers, a drivers license and a billing address of course. After having filling out loads of informations down to medical symptoms and past events irrelevant to the doctors visit, one is made to wait thirty minutes in the lobby, then another twenty in the patient room. When the doctor finally decides to grace you with their presence all you get is a simple explanation of the symptoms that you already knew about and had looked up on the internet just before coming to the doctors office. Sometimes they wont even prescribe you any medicine and just send you on your way as soon as possible. Now having filled out the mountains of paperwork required and payed the copayment also they are saving themselves as much as possible from any possible lawsuit at any angle imaginable.
An example is an ear nose and throat doctor, during the doctor visit, one is told all about sinex, throat sprays, lozenges, and even benadryl. Was this anything new known to the sick person? Of course not! Everyone know all about any one of these things. Don't have to be a doctor to watch tv or look something up online. Advertisements and commercials have ingrained products like these into our mind. So whenever this sick person came to the doctor they expected to receive new knowledge and information not a recap of what they already knew. No one has to be a doctor to talk about these things. Any mom who has taken care of her children will know as much as a nurse about taking care of a sick person or watching over someone. Now as hard as it is for even a normal person with a job to get into this medical office and talk with a doctor. Think about how hard it is for a young adult especially a teenager to receive this health care.
A teen without parents or guardians is like a poor person. They don't know about jobs or health insurance. What happens when they need hospital care for any number of illnesses now in America? When they need morphine, antibiotics, and professional help the teenager will have a tough time filling out all the necessary information needed and then have to wait until the next year when a spot is finally available. Appointments having to be booked several convienent months in advance if you desire a certain time or day. Since all clinics and healthcare facilities are so occupied with tons of people.
Does it also seem right that these clinic have time periods open during the dayonly to them of course and not the client at all who have to wait until 8 to 11:30 the next day and then 12:30 to 3 pm these hours are hard to take off work for let alone make an appointment for. Not even having someone to answer the phone to people healthcare needs and even emergencies. Then saying an appointment is not available with the doctor until next year and Jan with the nurse and not till Feb with the doctor. To ever get to see these doctors at all is a puzzle in itself. Have they become royalty now with so many Americans seeking medical care. Now anything coming from the doctors mouth is automatically assumed as legitimate just because they came from blah university and obtained this degree which took 15 years. Exaggerated, doctors cannot possibly know exactly what illness the client has no matter how many years spent in study at whatever university it was. No matter how booksmart they may be.
So many new illnesses are developing with people and spreading to different countries by traveling people. One can never know what's up or be to sure to take whichever shots needed.
Teenagers are faced with a dilemma to go to the doctor and receive care then spend mountains of money on it afterwards for so many months or not go and see if the problem will take care of itself
